Hera is a European voluntary industry programme to carry out Human & Environmental Risk Assessments on ingredients of household cleaning products

HERA risk assessments

Why HERA?

In the past, safety assessments were carried out on ingredients by the companies, with results kept confidential. In today’s world, where transparency is rightly demanded by both regulators and the general public, HERA makes safety assessment data on ingredients used in household products publicly accessible and supports the risk-based approach to chemicals legislation in the European Union.

Our objectives

HERA establishes a common risk assessment framework for the household cleaning products industry and provides evaluated safety information on the ingredients used in these products in an effective and transparent way. This approach reflects the industry’s commitment to a sound scientific basis to risk assessment and the use of a tiered strategy to understand the behaviour of chemicals during the use and disposal phase of household cleaning products.
